Because his father was a roving Federation ambassador, with his mother serving as his attaché, Joe spent much of his early years aboard starships or hopping from planet to planet.ĭespite his fathers wishes that Joe followed in his footsteps, Joe wanted to become a pilot and so, with his mothers blessing, he entered Starfleet Academy at the age of 18 (2364).
